Quality systems and Lexcel accreditation

The development of effective working methods has become an ever more important ingredient in business success in recent years. Lexcel is the Law Society's practice management standard which is designed to help firms enhance the quality of their systems. It is awarded to solicitors who meet high management and customer care standards. Lexcel accredited practices undergo independent assessment every year to ensure they continue to meet the required standards of excellence in key areas such as client care, case management and risk management.

Lexcel accreditation typically brings:

  • Increased profitability
  • Better risk management
  • Improved management efficienc
  • Better client care
  • Evidence of compliance with SRA rules

We have been closely involved with the development of Lexcel from the outset, as Vicky Ling carried out pilot audits and wrote the first assessors’ guide. She was also a member of the advisory committee supervising three subsequent revisions to the standard (now in its fourth version). Vicky Ling and Andrew Otterburn both have experience in providing consultancy advice and practical assistance to firms seeking Lexcel accreditation.

    Our assistance includes:

  • Initial diagnostic against the standard
  • Development of procedures manual
  • Staff training
  • Implementation support
  • Pre-assessment audit
  • On-going support

  • Although Lexcel accreditation is only available in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we are able to assist firms in Scotland and Ireland to also implement similar procedures and quality systems as the benefits to the firm are just as significant.

Business benefits of using our services to achieve Lexcel include:

  • Expert advice on implementation and interpretation
  • Faster achievement of the standard through the use of external support
  • More cost effective use of partner and senior management time, who might otherwise have spent much time on manuals, training and implementation
